These words are in red because they were spoken by Jesus. That, by itself, makes this a powerful statement. Let’s spend a little time with this one and really understand it.

Do Not Fear

“Do not fear those who kill the body…” We may not fear being killed for our faith, although that was a real fear for the disciples. In today’s world, we fear being judged, ridiculed, embarrassed. We fear being left out or cast out. We fear losing friendships or offending a loved one. And, these fears cause us to avoid difficult conversations or change how we approach certain interactions. We may call it being diplomatic, but really we’re compromising the truth and we’re doing it out of fear.

What’s Actually At Stake

Here is Jesus reminding us that God has the power to send our body and our soul to hell. We don’t often think in those terms. What if we did? What if we framed our human interactions with the reality that every time we compromise our faith, we risk our body and soul spending eternity in hell? Is that what’s at stake?

Matthew 10:28

In the passage that includes this verse, Jesus is instructing his disciples to go out into the world and spread the gospel. Make disciples everywhere you go. And, he provides this bold instruction. And, he doesn’t hold back the why.

The Study

Have No Fear of Them is the fourth study in Volume 1: Do Not Fear Man, part of the Ensnared No More: Daily Moments of Discernment series.

Each Moment is designed to be brief but meaningful — deeper than a quick devotional, but still something you can work through in the middle of a real, busy day. No fluff. No filler. Just Scripture, honest reflection, and space to let God’s Word do what it does.

In this study, you’ll find the full passage in context, a look at what it actually means (including the translation of certain words from the original language that make the message in the verse even stronger), reflection questions that will challenge you to examine where the fear of man might be quietly shaping your choices, and space to pray and journal your response.

It’s not long. It is honest. And it might change the way you walk into your next hard conversation.

It’s designed to be deeper than a quick devotional, but still doable in real life.
