The Snare We Often Ignore: A Simple Bible Study for When Life Feels Too Loud to Focus

Any time spent in God’s word is valuable, but sometimes you try to read and your mind won’t slow down long enough to absorb anything.

You read a few chapters. You try to focus. And, somehow, it just doesn’t stick.

If you’ve felt that tension and have the desire to go deeper, but the reality is you have a full, distracted life — you’re not alone. That’s where I began.

Why This Bible Study Exists

I launched EnsnaredLife.com to learn something new while poking around the internet and bookstores to find truth. I soon found that I didn’t just want to link to the content of others or write monologues. I wanted to create something. I wanted to create something that helped me engage with Scripture in a meaningful, focused way. And, that might help others do the same, in the middle of their hurried lives.

I was looking for something real. And, I was looking for something that I could pick up anytime and immediately feel like I was actually studying God’s word. I didn’t want another devotional to make me feel good about my life — I wanted a study that encouraged me to transform my life and helped me discern the truth.

After much prayer, that became: Ensnared No More: Daily Moments of Discernment.

We’re excited to launch this series of Bible studies that, we believe, are deeper than a quick devotional, yet still doable by people living real lives.

What Makes This Different

Each short, standalone, study is designed to give you a moment when you can stop what you’re doing and truly get into God’s word — a Daily Moment of Discernment! Take ten minutes or thirty; it is designed to be brief, but there are also suggestions for further reading if you are moved to dig deeper. My hope is that these will take you deeper into God’s word and help you spot the lies that so easily entangle us.

Each study includes:

  • A focused Scripture, with context
  • Cross-references to deepen understanding
  • Deeper word meanings (without being academic)
  • Common scenarios that we find ourselves in and how Scripture confronts them
  • Reflection prompts to help it all actually sink in

Each study stands on its own, but is also one in a volume of related material.

The First Volume: Fear of Man

The first volume centers on one of the most powerful struggles we all face – Fear of Man.

It isn’t always obvious. We’re not running around scared of people. This fear shows up as:

  • People pleasing
  • Overthinking
  • Needing/Seeking/Wanting approval from your family and friends
  • Avoiding what God is calling you to do

Scripture calls it a snare. It is an easy trap to fall into and it can quietly shape how we live.

It’s what inspired the name of my project, Ensnared Life: Safe in Christ, and it’s where we start our study.

Volume 1, Moment 1: “The Snare We Often Ignore” is now available as a free download.

The plan is to roll out volumes covering broader topics. The first volume is: Fear. Proverbs 29:25 reads “The fear of man lays a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is safe.” This verse was the inspiration for Ensnared Life. This is the obvious place to start our studies. When we understand and overcome our inclination to fear man, we can truly live Safe in Christ.

If this first moment encourages your heart or helps your Bible study, I’d love to hear about it in the comments below. Your comments will make my content stronger.
