Don’t Miss the Bold Truth

“Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’ So we can confidently say, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?’”
Hebrews 13:5-6

God will never leave you — that is a good take away from this verse. But, when you take the time to study it, you’ll come away with a little bit more. More certainty and more confidence.
Wisdom From the Old Testament
It is clear throughout the New Testament that the Apostles and others in the early church were well versed in God’s word and this passage from Hebrews is ‘ripped’ right from the Old Testament.
Did you know that the Old Testament is quoted around 250-300 times in the New Testament? If you count references and paraphrasing, it’s referenced at least 1000 times.
That said, we need to remember that when the New Testament was authored, the authors weren’t leaning on the teachings of…the New Testament. They were quoting from the Word of God (the Old Testament) and teaching the things that the living Jesus Christ taught them…personally. They didn’t read it from a book — they watched and listened to Jesus in real time! Just imagine that for a moment as you consider the passage from Hebrews.
Hebrews 13:5-6
Most of us have heard the phrase “the Lord is my helper.” It is always reassuring. But the passage we’ve chosen to study is more than that. It makes a bold declaration about who God is and contains a straight forward command about who how to live and why.
The Study
The Lord Is My Helper is the third study in Volume 1: Do Not Fear Man, part of the Ensnared No More: Daily Moments of Discernment series.
Each Moment is designed to be brief but meaningful — deeper than a quick devotional, but still something you can work through in the middle of a real, busy day. No fluff. No filler. Just Scripture, honest reflection, and space to let God’s Word do what it does.
In this study, you’ll find the full passage in context, a look at what it actually means (including the translation of certain words from the original language that make the message in the verse even stronger), reflection questions that will challenge you to examine where the fear of man might be quietly shaping your choices, and space to pray and journal your response.
It’s not long. It is honest. And it might change the way you walk into your next hard conversation.
It’s designed to be deeper than a quick devotional, but still doable in real life.
